Australia is a land of opportunities. If you have the will to push forward, the rewards are totally worth it. Spreading this message is crucial, rather than just painting a fairy tale.

I arrived in Australia from India in January 2018, aiming for a better quality of life.

My advice to fellow migrants is to deeply understand your reasons for moving. The grass is always greener on the other side. Take a moment to evaluate your priorities before making the move. Embracing change is challenging but crucial.

My journey to Australia has transformed me. As a Software developer who once preferred the anonymity behind a screen, I now organise numerous networking events, engage on social media, host podcasts, talks, and even a TV show. I was honoured as one of the top 20 LinkedIn voices in Australia for job search.

Job hunting posed significant challenges, taking eight months to secure my first role due to expectations and cultural differences.

Melbourne’s multicultural vibrancy, with its diverse food, festivals, and shops, allows me to stay connected to my roots.

For migrants, it’s essential to set realistic expectations. Whether international students or skilled professionals, challenges are inevitable. Surviving the initial hurdles without adequate support is tough, but Australia offers abundant opportunities. The key is to convey this reality rather than painting an idealistic picture.

Achieving recognition as a LinkedIn Top Voice, the gratitude from meetup participants, and recently becoming an Australian citizen—all contribute to my personal development. The power of mentoring, public speaking, and bringing smiles to strangers are skills I’ve cultivated along the way.
